Leo Salgado, a current PhD candidate in the Nault lab, has been honored with the Outstanding Achievements in IPM award from the Northeastern IPM Center.
Comments from nomination materials and viewers highlighted Leo’s “remarkable gift for developing and delivering practical pest management solutions to vegetable growers.” Leo’s PhD research is “filling significant knowledge gaps and this information is already helping growers improve their management of Delia ssp. maggots in onion fields,” nominators said.
In addition to his research on pest management and population genetics, Leo’s commitment to inclusion is strong. One reviewer noted “His efforts have strengthened our program’s mission to make IPM knowledge accessible to all, regardless of language or background, and his work with Spanish-speaking farm employees is a testament to his dedication to creating a more equitable agricultural system.”
As a recipient of this award, Leo will be presenting a webinar on April 3, 2025 at 2:00 PM EST. The title of this talk is “Exploring Alternatives to Neonicotinoid Seed Treatments: Case Studies in Vegetable Crops.” Register for the webinar here, and join us in congratulating Leo!
