Applied insect ecology and management of vegetable insect pests

John Mahas, Marcelo Dimase publish extension articles in VegEdge

John Mahas and Marcelo Dimase, both postdocs in the Nault Lab, published extension articles co-authored with Brian Nault in the April 2025 issue of Cornell Vegetable Program’s newsletter VegEdge.

John’s article, “Using Pheromone-Baited Traps to Monitor Corn Earworm in Sweet Corn,” provides information for growers on relative efficacy of commercially available traps and pheromone lures for managing this pest, as well as guidance on using action thresholds.

Marcelo’s article, “Non-Neonicotinoid Insecticides Show Promise for Managing Colorado Potato Beetle in New York,” presents 2024 bioassay results in which 6 non-neonicotinoid insecticides and 1 neonicotinoid insecticide were tested against 10 Colorado Potato Beetle (CPB) populations from different locations across New York State. These results provide growers with information on relative efficacy of insecticides that are available for use in New York against CPB. Read the articles here!
