Layton’s summer research project investigated onion maggot, Delia antiqua, sensitivity to spinosad, an insecticide seed treatment commonly used for maggot control in the onion production regions of New York.
During the 8-week program, Layton conducted his research projects under the direction of Ph.D. student Leo Salgado. Layton’s projects include 1) a dose-response bioassay to assess onion maggot sensitivity to spinosad and 2) a field trial evaluating the performance of different insecticide seed treatments to reduce damage caused by maggots to the onion crop. Layton presented his findings at the annual summer scholars poster symposium, join us in congratulating Layton on this achievement!
Layton finished his program by presenting his findings at the 2023 Cornell AgriTech Summer Research Scholars Program Research Poster Session. Join us in congratulating Layton on this achievement!
