About Lindsy:

I am currently a postdoctoral research associate in Brian Nault’s Vegetable Entomology Lab at Cornell AgriTech. As an applied ecologist, I have always been interested in the development of ecologically and economically sustainable solutions to current agricultural challenges. My interests began during my BS program at the University of Florida where I studied Environmental Science and Sustainability. I completed my MS in Interdisciplinary Ecology and my PhD in Entomology at the University of Florida. My graduate research was on the behavior, ecology and dispersal of a newly invasive insect species, the spotted wing drosophila, to inform integrated pest management programs in berry crops. As a postdoctoral researcher, my current research focuses on evaluating several cultural and bioinsecticide control tactics for managing onion thrips in organic onion production in the Great Lakes Region. I am also working on a project investigating the visual behavior of an invasive insect pest of Allium crops, the allium leafminer, and the effectiveness of visually attractive traps. In addition to my main research projects, I have coordinated monitoring programs for invasive insect pests, conducted field and laboratory pesticide efficacy trials, organized and facilitated several extension workshops for agriculture stakeholders, and presented research findings to a variety of audiences. My career aspiration is to work in an industry position where I can serve as an integral part of a team dedicated to developing sustainable agricultural solutions for today’s growers. My ideal role would be one where I collaborate with university researchers, government policy-makers, industry stakeholders, and internal personnel to build research and development strategies for products that meets the evolving needs of the agriculture industry as well as the company’s goals.
