We work to employ the many tools under the umbrella of Integrated Pest Management (IPM). Most notable of the tools are:
- Biological control
- Pest resistant cultivars
- Cultural and physical controls
- Chemical control
Current Projects:
- Researching potential for pest resistant cultivars
- Exploring Bacillus thuringiensis for control of lepidopteran pests
- Investigating importance of nutrition on crop growth and resilience to pest and disease pressure in onion
- Employing plastic mulch as both an insect and weed suppressant
- Utilizing action thresholds to employ an effective chemical management plan. Meanwhile balancing chemical rotations to conserve and thereby prevent insecticide resistance
